In Korea, people celebrate children's first birthday by throwing a huge party, which is often as lavish as some people's wedding reception party in... let's say, America.
I learned that, because there was a time that infant mortality was great, so people figured that if a child was healthy enough to see their first birthday, more likely they were going to live.
Anyway, I have decided to give my daughter, Sofia, a traditional Korean first birthday party, unlike so many of my friends who throw lavish western style party with huge several tiered cakes, silk gowns, musicians, etc.
Not only that I decided to give a traditional party, but I am also going to make every little piece that will be needed for the party. Which means, I probably will have a needle attached to my finger for next couple of month... day and night.
So, here is my first piece for her party. This is called, "Tahrae Buseon(I might have spelled wrong)". It is a sock that kids wear, if they don't know how to walk by their first birthday. It works as a socks and shoes. Since, Sofia isn't close to walking...this is what she will wear on her feet.
It is made of very fine silk(called Myung-joo). I have quilted via traditional Korean quilting method. After the quilting was done, I have put the whole thing together. There isn't a one thing that was store bought, I even had to make the tassels, which was little challenging for me.
Now, I am making a "Dolttie(a special belt for the first birthday boy or girl, this case a girl)". I have been doing the traditional Korean embroidery for last two weeks, and can't wait to see the finished piece.
until then, you all have a nice time blogging!
